Healing is truly possible, even when the road isn't always straight. Let's navigate this together.

Island of Misfit Guts was born from a season of feeling completely alone while trying to find balance in my health. After being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis four years ago, my life became a cycle of trial and error — experimenting, researching, and learning what truly works for my body. Along the way, I often felt like I had more questions than answers, little support, and no one who really understood what I was going through.

That journey, however, sparked something bigger. It inspired me to pursue an education in holistic nutrition so that one day I can be the source of guidance and support I once searched for but couldn’t find. I’ve come to believe deeply in a holistic approach to wellness — one that honors the individuality and complexity of every person’s digestive and healing journey.

The weight of misunderstanding

Before finding my footing, the journey was filled with immense frustration. Every meal felt like a gamble, constantly searching for foods that nourished rather than harmed, and trying and failing new medications. I often felt dismissed by doctors and misunderstood by those around me, burdened by advice that didn't fit my unique body. It was an isolating experience, wondering if I'd ever find relief, but I knew I had to keep moving forward and utilizing every single resource.

Finding my path, living my truth

Today, life is profoundly different. I've uncovered what truly works for my body, embraced supportive friends and family, and found medical professionals who listen and have placed me on an appropriate maintenance medication. The biggest shift? Making unapologetic accommodations for myself, even if it initially made others uncomfortable. This empowered approach has led to a life where I feel understood and I have many more moments of peace.

Small shifts, big breakthroughs

My healing journey wasn't about one grand solution, but a series of 'aha!' moments. Learning to effectively manage stress through daily practices, meticulously navigating an elimination diet, and incorporating gentle movement like yoga and walking were truly transformative. These simple yet profound changes created a ripple effect, steering me toward sustained gut health and well-being.

"Keep asking questions, keep moving forward. Your voice matters, and your healing journey is worth every step."
